Easy College Super Smoothie!

So this smoothie is a recent discovered favorite for me! Hope all of you enjoy it as much as I do …

Chocolate-Raspberry-Sneaky-Green-Smoothie-2

ingredients

  1. frozen Mango 1/4 cup
  2. frozen Passion Fruit 1/4 cup
  3. frozen Dragon Fruit 1/4 cup
  4. frozen Acai Berries 1/4 cup
  5. chocolate Shakeology or any chocolate flavored protein powder 1 cup
  6. 8 oz water

How to make it

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender, blend and serve !

Benefits:

Mango– Lowers cholesterol, clears skin, improves eye health

Passion fruit– High fiber and lower GI content (makes this great for diabetics!), filled with antioxidants!

Dragon fruit– High in fiber and Vitamin C

Acai Berry– Rich in antioxidants and helps to lose weight

Shakeology– In a nutshell, Shakeology is a nutrient-dense superfood protein shake that’s formulated with globally harvested ingredients that supply phytonutrients, antioxidants, enzymes, prebiotics and probiotics, fiber, adaptogens, vitamins, and minerals.

 

What to Pack for College!

College move-in day is an exciting experience for all freshman, but what many students and parents don’t realize is the amount of stuff they should be taking. At home we have comfortable spaces to fill with items of our choosing; however a lot of times what we forget is how much of that stuff is really essential for us. Thus a big mistake college freshmen end up making is overfilling their dorm spaces. This article should help you streamline exactly what to take for a smooth semester.

1.Clothing 

In state or out-of-state, any college student will only use around 20 pieces of clothing. In my closet, I like to keep five bottoms. I’m more of an aim for comfort kind of girl, so I keep three pairs of tights that I also use for working out and two jeans, one light pair, and one dark. For tops, I aim for around three tanks that can be easily layered. I keep around two cardigans of neutral colors that can be worn with tanks or tees. For the remaining part of my wardrobe I have five fancy or dressy tops for occasions I need to look presentable for, and around five casual tops that I can wear to class, the gym, or a grocery store.

For at home clothing I like to keep three shorts and three at home tops. These three pairs of PJ’s last me a semester as I wash clothes every three days to prevent an overflow of dirty clothing.

2. Shoes

College is a lot of walking, in all honesty, your best investment is a good pair of sneakers for the summer and a nice pair of UGG boots for the winter. Other than that a pair of nude heels or a pretty pair of metallic sandals will help you out on those dressy occasions. Also, keep a pair of flip-flops handy for anything from the grocery store to the community bathroom.

3. Note Taking Supplies

For the girls who love a plethora of pens and cute pencils, you won’t have time to use those in college so don’t waste your parent’s money on it. Instead, buy on a pack of 36 blue or black pens, I like ballpoint bic as they glide allowing me to write faster. Also, keep a 15-12 pack of pencils for testing days. If you love color coordinated notes like me keep a pack of 5 highlighters in handy, this way you can color as you revise.

4. laundry basket

I highly suggest a strong laundry basket, as mine was a pain to carry to the laundry rooms. Make sure your basket has handles to make your job easier, also make sure it has a lid or top cover, so your room looks clean.

5. Cups

Buy two cups one for water and one for coffee. These will come in handy when you’re running late to class or when your too lazy to grab water down the hall in the middle of the night.

6. Comforter

Your dorm room is small, and you don’t need to cramp it with another bulky comforter. Invest in 1 good soft comforter that you can wash while your studying. I suggest a t-shirt comforter as they as too soft to resist.

7. Skin-Care

College is a stressful time, and you don’t need pimples popping up all over to make it worse. Invest in a good skincare routine. Preferably a gentle face wash, toner, and moisturizer as you won’t have time or space to go the whole nine yards with masks, gels, and oils.

My Skin Care Routine

  1. Micellar water – This product has become a must-have in my routine, one swipe on a cotton round and even my heaviest makeup products break down. Remember always remove your makeup after your home to prevent clogged pores! Screen Shot 2018-07-18 at 10.19.37 AM
  2. Face Wash -This face wash is lightweight and foaming. I like to rub it into my damp face in circular motions using my fingertips. I do this twice a day, and it helps significantly with my oily spots!Screen Shot 2018-07-18 at 10.20.10 AM
  3. Scrub-This scrub has been a go-to since my early teenage years. My mom first introduced this to me when I started getting acne bumps. With a light bit of steam and pressure in circular upward motions, this products smooth out your skin and works wonders!   4. toner- This toner tingles as you apply it, but the best part is that you can actually see the pore shrink. Since scrubs open my pores up, I use this right after!

  5. Masks are the best pick-me-ups for the skin! Although I don’t get time to do this every day, I try to use a make once a week depending on skin issue. I use a variety of brands, but my favorite is creme as it has the best sheet masks!Screen Shot 2018-07-18 at 10.18.50 AM
  6. SPF

Janhvi Kapoor Dhadak Makeup; look like Janhvi Kapoor step by step !

  • Prep the face with a moisturizer and a primer. A good primer pick is thepore professional primer.As you apply each layer of product, let the coat prior dry!
  • Start by applying a foundation for a base. Hello Happy Foundation by benefit is a good pick!
  • Conceal under eyes with Maybelline age rewind concealer and blend it to match the face naturally.
  • Let it dry! The best way to avoid the cake face is to let products dry!
  • Use a cream contour stick (I use the Maybelline fit me foundation stick in coconut)   and make a light line going diagonally from the base of your cheekbone following down its natural curve and stopping where your eyes start. Draw a light line under your jawline to give it a sharper look, and also the corners of your forehead if it is too large in your opinion. Blend all the cream contour with a stiff headed brush. Make sure to blend up when on your cheekbone area and forehead. However, blend down on your jawline!
  • Use a blush, right above your contour and blend it out to touch your contour. I recommend any blush from the NARissist wanted cheek palette, depending on your skin tone.
  • Use the benefit gimme brow gel to set your eyebrows.
  • For eyes use a light brown eyeshadow as a base (naked basics color primal works best!), follow that with a pink color that matches your blush for the crease and blend the eyeshadows to avoid harsh lines.
  • Then, use a brown kajal and line your eyelash baseline, I recommend the loreal smoldering eyeliner. Now, use a thin-tipped brush to smudge your line.
  • Finally, take a brown eye brush pen and create a winged tip, I recommend the Kat Von D tattoo liner in brown.
  • End the look with a pink lip! I recommend the Givenchy lipstick linked here.

The Top 10 Mistakes Students Make During Their Freshman Year

  • Not eating a balanced diet 
    Growing up with an Indian family, it was easy to forget about the worries of eating. Mummy did that for us! Indian moms are pros at cooking homemade food every day for breakfast lunch and dinner, as well as making sure the whole family eats on time. But now you cant take Mummy Ji to college with you…  Going from whole grain roti to white bread at the dinning hall will make you gain weight! So be sure to learn how to cook from your mom, or if you live close enough ask her to pack your food every 2-3 days.

 

  • Not knowing when to say NO
    Whether it’s your friends begging you to go to a club meeting or your best friend waiting on facetime you will always be faced with tough choices. There are a million fun things to do, and a million people convincing you to waste time with them. Learn to say no, it’s okay to put yourself first. Events pop up every week in college, but your midterm exam only pops up once that semester, who will you say yes to?

 

  • Not keeping a Planner
    I can’t survive without a planner! I need to know what I’m doing all week in advance, so I don’t get distracted from work or miss out on the fun! A planner can help you remember dates and learn time management. Not everything has to be all work or all fun, as long as you learn to manage your time!

 

  • Coming in with a set major
    Yes, they make you pick a major during applications, but the truth is if you force yourself to stick to one thing you’ll question yourself later. You don’t want to be a 40-year-old business woman who came back to fill in pre-reqs for MED school. Explore your first semester, and talk to your advisor about the courses you enjoy, this should be a guiding line for them. For example, I have always hated plant related biology, and chemistry isn’t my favorite either. However, I love human biology anatomy and physiology; also I had a love for psychology. After a lengthy conversation with my academic advisor, I was set on a Neuroscience major! No matter how ridiculous or specific your likes are, there is always a major out there for you!

 

  • Too much coffee
    You would think coffee is the solution to everything, and for a while it is. But the headache reliefs and energy bursts coffee gives are just temporary. It’ll end up that you got a sugar rush with the help of coffee, that faded off to turn into a sleepy energy deprived mood. Moreover, coffee before studying for an exam is horrible for you! as in many cases caffeine causes anxiety. Try something different like jade citrus mint tea from Starbucks; the citrus provides a boost in immune health while the mint refreshes you!

 

  • Not joining clubs
    College is quicker than you’d expect. In a blink, you’ll be getting ready to write a grad school application, and that’s where your sorority won’t cut it. A major related club is an asset to add to your application. It shows schools that you put in the time to do what you love and enjoy it enough to start applying it! The best way to build up your application is to begin freshman year. Before you even get to college keep a list of 3 sororities, two major related clubs, and two clubs of interest. It seems like a lot, but you won’t have time for it all and will end up eliminating what’s not important by the end of the year. The point is to explore everything enough, that you find one or two things you can passionately write about on applications.

 

  • Not going planning out a schedule for the next 4 years
    Having a schedule planned for the next four years will allow you to stay on top of your game when it comes to picking classes. You’ll know exactly what to choose when, and this decreases the chances of you missing out on a requirement because you’re waiting on an advisor. Moreover, it also gives you a sense of direction for the next 4 years.

 

  • Keeping up the fake smile
    College is far! You don’t always have to hide that lousy quiz grade or that drama with your friends. If you involve your parents a bit more in your life rather than pushing them away with a fake smile, chances are they will come to understand and conform to your ways a bit more. Plus, parents are the friends that can’t gossip about you! So your secrets always stay safe…

 

  • Study Groups
    STUDY GROUPS ARE A HORRIBLE IDEA. I have no idea which crazy human invented these, but study groups are a distracting mess! You might go in with a study mindset… but in a 7 person group; 3 people will be clueless and ask you questions, 2 will come to watch Netflix, and 2 will distract you all! with MEMES….

 

  • Forgetting about your hobbies
    College is busy, and finding your place in the world is hard. However, your hobbies are what keep you sane. Always take an hour a week to keep yourself unique and do what makes you happy! Swim, write, paint, run, shop! Do whatever it is that keeps your heart free, after all, you only live once.

Arangetram Season has been here! Every summer 100s of hard working Indian dancers have their Arangetrams. This year one of my closest friend’s is having her Arangetram, and like any bestie, I am way too excited! A significant time for these hard-working beauties, this event ends up being like a mini wedding, and the struggle for supporters and attendees like me comes down to “What should I wear this season?” Here are some ideas on what to wear to your best friend’s Arangetram!
